Only six more months till Halloween! Unbelievable. Speaking of unbelievable, I actually finished a new piece of art. I've been drawing & crafting lately, but I just can't bring myself to sit in front of a computer for hours on end.
So here it is! My newest piece, the Silver Shamrock trick-or-treaters. This was an idea that I started working on in September of 2013. I wanted to do a sort of retro faux ad for Silver Shamrock. This was my first rough draft:
It's not very good. But, i wanted to get the idea down. Then I did a second rough sketch:
And a third:
Because I was moving to a new house in October of 2013, I didn't take part in the Halloween Countdown that year. But I decided that I would save it and use it as part of 2014's countdown. Well, that didn't happen. I did start an Illustrator piece, but I wasn't loving it. I had a bunch of other pieces to work on, so I just dropped it.
Last month I started thinking about it again and I decided to redraw it.
Look at all my hand gesture drawings at the bottom :P
I felt like this one was better, but I thought I might have one more go at it, which resulted in this:
I thought it would be interesting to include all these drafts. It's eye-opening for me to look at, just because I can see my style shaping and improving.

Back in early 2013, I did my version of a Chimera, and expressed interest in doing more mythological creatures in my own cute style. The idea went on the back burner until early 2014, when once again, my interest circled back around. I had a couple of sketches, and had intended for them to be paintings that I would sell at ZaPow gallery. The Sphinx was one of my favorites, so I tried to make it my first painting. I painted it once, abandoned the canvas, started painting it a second time on a different canvas and ultimately abandoned it as well. So I did nothing with this sketch for about a year. Then shortly after Christmas, I decided to do a finished Illustrator version. I'm glad that I did, even though I had some struggles getting through that process. Who knows if I'll do anymore. So technically, this is a late December 2014 piece that I'm finally getting around to sharing here. :P
Also, I decided to try out Society6. I uploaded my Bride 2015 art as my first test piece. You can purchase prints, iphone/ipod cases, tote bags & more! Even a shower curtain! I'm still trying to get a feel for how it works & I'll try to pick out a few more things to add. Check it out here.
Also, if you didn't get one of my goat stickers, they are now available 'on-demand' from Sticker Mule. Get them here.

I left the Krampus 2014 banner up a little longer than I had wanted, but I was having trouble coming up with a new banner for the new year. Finally I just picked something and did it. I have a very long post about New Year's Resolutions & all that jazz, but I haven't got it in me to write it up right now.
So for now here is the new banner for this year:
In bright, obnoxious colors!
And a black & white version (which I didn't use, but really liked it anyway).

Greetings all! I realized that I haven't tended to my blog since Halloween ended, but I did need a little break. I can hardly believe that November has come & gone, and we are a week into December! I don't know how much I'll be posting before the end of the year, but I did want to get with it and update my page for the holidays. I've been sketching a lot and one of the things I've been working on is a new Krampus design. I decided to work one of those ideas up for my Season's Beatings header for 2014.
Also, a few years ago I did cover art for 'Santastic V: Snow, Man', a holiday themed mash-up compilation. I'm back as the cover illustrator for this year's mix 'Santastic No.9: It's a Major Award'. You can download this year's mix as well as 1-8 at christmash.com . I must confess, I'm pretty proud of that art. It makes me want to do more Christmas special mash-up pieces. Some of you might remember my Hermey The Misfits Elf from last year. It was just a fun piece I did for myself, but people seemed to dig it.
And don't forget that The 13 Days of Creepmas is going on now. One year I will participate, I just need to plan a little better. But head over to the blog and check out the list of this year's participants.
I might have a couple of things to share before we say goodbye to 2014, so remember to check back. Hope you all are having a merry season!
